The real crisis in higher education by Roger Brown
Universities are trying harder than ever to raise their status, rank or position, partly driven by globalisation, technological change, and societal choices about how we organise ourselves. Even if we cannot reverse these developments there is more we can do as academics, as institutions and as a higher education sector to help society to understand them and to moderate their impact. The untrammelled pursuit of status will be the death of the university as we know it.
